Re-Tros Album Launch This Weekend!

Armed with a new album, Rebuilding The Rights of Statues (Re-Tros) are returning to Shanghai to launch what is looking to be one of the biggest Chinese releases of the year. Two years on from their highly acclaimed debut release "Cut Off", Re-Tros have finished recording their much anticipated new album "WATCH OUT! CLIMATE HAS CHANGED, FAT MUM RISES...". It's obvious from the first few songs that the trio have kept their brooding atmospheric post-punk roots and have layered it with a focus on developing a far larger sound. "WATCH OUT! CLIMATE HAS CHANGED, FAT MUM RISES..." is a shifting into the next gear for a band that has already headlined several music festivals and even had the chance to work together with the likes of Brian Eno.

If this is your first chance to see Re-Tros, we urge you not to miss it. There are few bands that have managed to portray their emotions so clearly through their music and to raise the bar to a global standard.

Supporting Re-Tros will be Nanjing Indie/Experimental outfit - Fading Horizon. Signed to Miniless Records, Fading Horizon are quickly making their name in China's populating Indie music scene with their signature lo-fi Noise Rock numbers. Get ready for a night of dim lighting, deranged atmospheres and static infused sounds worthy of the coming apocalypse.

After the bands play, S.T.D. will be hosting a free after party in LOgO with the STDJs to go into the wee hours of the morning. Maybe we'll hire a public bus again....in any case we suggest you come unprotected...

Digital Love Encore and such

This post is a bit late butttt I've been extremely busy, extremely tired and extremely something else which I can't put my finger on. Thanks to the hundreds of you for coming out to support Pitchtuner. Thanks for making all of us stay til 7am and party with you! haha we love it. It was a great success and Pitchtuner thank all of you for supporting in hordes.

With Digital Love Encore just tomorrow night, I should probably be in getting some rest (if last week is any indication of what to expect this week) but I'll be out and about. Scoping what's happening in this concrete maze we live in. Don't forget that LON will be playing a very special live set tomorrow. Mr Clumsy will be our honoured guest on decks and from what I've heard it sounds pretty hawt.

I don't have too much too say right now but see you soon!

Oh, also check out Fucked Up's blog about their little trip to PRC. We miss you so much, guy! http://lookingforgold.blogspot.com/

til tomorrow for some Digital Love!

Weekend Wrap Up - Fucked Up in Shanghai

Hey Team!!

Sorry for the late post, but I've just been a little tied up with post-Saturday obligations. Mainly trying to find the owners of various limbs, teeth...etc. etc.

But DAMN! What a show. Even that flash cyclone had little effect on all the people that turned up at LOgO to watch what was a fantastic display of live music from all bands. Big ups to support acts Crazy Mushroom, MOFOs and The Rogue Transmission.

Basically, if you were there then you witnessed arguably one of the best live Punk Rock shows ever in Shanghai. It was fun, loud, distorted, energetic, sweaty and pretty balls out in general. Fucked Up absolutely loved the chance to play for everyone and hopefully we will be seeing them again in the not too distant future. Be sure to keep an eye and ear out for the trail of destruction which seems to follow them.

From behalf of S.T.D. we want to say thank you to everyone for taking care of one another in the depths of the Fucked Up mosh pit. Thanks to everyone involved on what was a beautiful Fucked Up experience. See you this Saturday at Pitchtuner!

Weekend Wrap

WoW, nice one Shanghai! From behalf of Oliver, Banana Monkey, The Rovers and S.T.D., we thank you for coming out Saturday night to support the all Chinese line up and the return of S.T.D. live music parties.

Safe to say that Oliver are definately a band to keep an eye and an ear on as they play with a calibre that most would agree surpass their ages. A very welcoming crowd for the return of Banana Monkey (above picture), early comers packed shoulder to shoulder to catch The Rovers and the masses staying all night to dance with our DJs wrapped up what was a great Saturday night. We'll be seeing you in 2 weeks @ LOgO as you get Fucked Up with S.T.D.

S.T.D. LIVE this Saturday with Oliver (BJ) + Banana Monkey + The Rovers

With the Digital Love series wrapped up, it's time to put the lime light back on to the live music scene with the introduction of Oliver this Saturday at LOgO. The Beijing rockers have already created quite a buzz in Shanghai and have live music lovers anticipating what is fueling up to be a killer show of raw Chinese talent this weekend. It will also be Banana Monkey's return to LOgO equipped with a new sound that you will just have to come to witness yourself. Ohhh not to mention you'll be singing along to The Rovers as they lay out your favourite Led Zepplin songs...seriously, they are really fucking good.

Also, here's a nice little article about Oliver from the kids at layabozi. Check it out here.

Supporting Chinese live music and safe sex,

All Things Golden - MP3s!

So we have been pretty busy over here in S.T.D. HQ. Busy staying out of the rain, trying to keep warm, and of course lining things up for people to convulse around to in their socks. With the final installment in the Digital Love series tonight, Oliver in a week and then Fucked Up in two weeks, 2009 is about to get fucking real folks.

Would love to say a B.I.G. thank you to all the Djs and VJ that participated in Digital Love (LON, Tootekool, Adept, Mau Mau, Saxia, Deville, Kamikaze, Mr Tsang and of course our very special female VJ Hean). Although the series has come to an end (for now) it sets the stage for what could be one of the most exciting years in Shanghai's propelling live music scene. Already word is spreading like the black plague about the acts coming in the months to follow and there is a revitalized air of hope in Shanghai's densely polluted atmosphere.

To celebrate all this, I've decided to throw up some songs which may sum up the atmosphere a little better than I can in words. The beginning, the end and all things beautiful and golden in between. Here we go...

Cut Copy - Far Away (Golden Filter remix) (download)

Oliver - Never (download)

Fucked Up - Golden Seal (download)

Valentine Goodies

This week in Shanghai...everyone seemed to have gotten Daft Punk'd. Fake Daft Punk shows, alot of angry and dissapointed ticket buyers...next thing you know...Ashton Kutcher is going to jump out from behind a tree with a camera crew and point at camera's installed inside jugs of water.

Don't worry Shanghai, Oasis is coming soon...

On a musical note...here's some music to juice you up for Digital Love this Saturday.

First is Grafton Primary...Wizards from Oz...yet another impressive electronic band from the biggest island in the world, Australia. Then there's also a great Ladytron remix of an old She Wants Revenge song. It's all a bit black roses and razor blades at times...but hey, makes for a good massacre.
